Power and Safety
This pedal requires a 9v DC negative center tip power supply (standard pedalboard power) to operate. Do NOT operate at higher voltages, with positive center, or AC current. It is highly recommended that you use an isolated power supply rather than daisy-chaining, as it will help keep the noise floor down.
This is an electrical device. Take care to keep dry and avoid liquids as they may be a shock hazard or damage the pedal.
Controls
VOLUME: set the overall output volume of the pedal
STAMINA: tune the style of the fuzz. You will notice significant change in flavor and texture as you turn this knob.
SHAG: this switch is interactive with the Stamina control. Think of the Stamina as a carburetor or gas pedal, and the Shag as a gear shift. In the up position, you can tune the pedal into glitchy 8-bit sounds, dying battery, and gnarly velcro. In the middle position you get more standard fuzz tones ranging from smooth tearing cardboard into almost a ‘drive’ region. In the down slot, you can crank it up and get it to sizzle.
GIRTH: a passive cut for bass frequencies (high pass filter). Use this control to shape your tone; bass has a huge impact on the flavor of fuzz. It’s not just eq, low frequencies directly affect how the transistors behave. This is particularly noticable if you’re going for a bit-crusher sound–crank up the bottom and try your neck pickup on the E and A strings!
NOIR: Three-way presence cut. Every amp is different, and this control will let you get just the right about of brightness in your tone.
Internal
LED BRIGHT: Many PHD Pedals have an internal trimmer control that allows some adjustment to LED brightness. This can be found on the PCB attached to the footswitch. Care must be taken while making adjustments so as not to damage internal components. If adjustments are made while the power is on, be extra careful not to create electrical shorts.
