Power and Safety
This pedal requires a 9v DC negative center tip power supply (standard pedalboard power) to operate. Do NOT operate at higher voltages, with positive center, or AC current. It is highly recommended that you use an isolated power supply rather than daisy-chaining, as it will help keep the noise floor down.
This is an electrical device. Take care to keep dry and avoid liquids as they may be a shock hazard or damage the pedal.
Controls
LEVEL: set the overall output volume of the pedal
GAIN: set the amount of gain. As you turn this knob, the pedal will also get louder.
TONE: a passive cut for treble frequencies (low pass filter) after both gain stages. Use this control to tune the clarity.
BRIGHT: presence control for the very top frequencies.
CLIP: this switch offers multiple compression settings. As you change its setting you will notice more drive saturation (effect is interactive with the gain knob). NOTE: stronger clip settings will result in some volume loss, due to the way in which diodes work; simply raise the LEVEL control to compensate.
MODE: this switch toggles between hard and soft clipping. Soft clipping tends to be associated with ‘overdrive’ tones, with more clipping applied to the higher frequencies. Hard clipping tends to be associated with ‘distortion’ tones, with much more clipping hitting the lower frequencies. Soft usually is ‘warmer”, while hard is ‘brighter’.
Internal
LED BRIGHT: Many PHD Pedals have an internal trimmer control that allows some adjustment to LED brightness. This can be found on the PCB attached to the footswitch. Care must be taken while making adjustments so as not to damage internal components. If adjustments are made while the power is on, be extra careful not to create electrical shorts.
